Top 10 Sneakers of the year

As the year comes to an end, it is time to see which sneakers came out on top. Although the year isn't over, no other shoe on the upcoming release list seems to be getting the amount of talk these shoes did. All these shoes are sold out on there respected websites, however all shoes can be found on the resale market thanks to websites such as StockX, Goat, and Grailed.

10. Supreme X Nike Air Force 1

Promotional photo from Supreme/Nike

Dropped in March for a retail price of $96 Nike collabed once again with streetwear giants Supreme. This time around Nike used it’s famous Nike Air Force 1 silhouette to collaborate with them. However, there's no need to sugarcoat it, this drop was underwhelming. The moment the silhouette leaked a large amount of people criticized the shoe's lazy design. That didn’t change when the shoe was actually dropped, the shoe consisted of a regular Air Force 1 with the famous red Supreme box logo. A small version of it that is on the side of the heel. With that being said, this is a Supreme collab, which didn’t stop the shoe from selling out. Although it is a lazy design from the two huge brands, it being Supreme and the famous Air Force 1 automatically adds it onto this list.

9. Air Jordan 1 Dark Mocha

Another year another Jordan 1 is released, this time the Dark Mocha’s were released on Oct. 31 for $170 This shoe was popular and unpopular for many reasons, and all for the same reasons. The shoe comes in a dark brown color, or in this case a dark mocha colorway. Of course this led to comparisons to the Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 collab that dropped last year since both share a similar colorway. This made many fans happy, especially those who weren't able to cop the now almost $2,000 Travis Scott shoe. However, for this same reason many people also called this the poor man's Travis Scott. Although this does not take away from the great colorway on a legendary shoe.

8. Adidas Yeezy Quantum

Enough of Nike for a bit, this time the conversation is about their biggest rival, Adidas. Although to be more exact, Yeezy; the brand run by the man himself, Kanye West. For months now Kanye was teasing his new shoes, by being pictured wearing them by not only him, but his famous family the Kardashians. What made the shoe stand out compared to his other sneakers is that these were a basketball shoe. Not only was the shoe greatly designed but the roll out was just as impressive. When it comes to hypewear or sneakers, most people know that the roll out can be just as important as the shoes. With Kanye giving away sneakers out of small tanks during the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend. The shoe immediately sold out when released with the retail price of $250.

7. Travis Scott x Nike Air Max 270 React

Anything that has Travis Scott’s name to it will immediately sell out at this point. The shoe was released in May for a retail price of $170. Now this shoe may be a bit controversial, the shoe isn’t loved as much as others due to the yellowing colorway and the bulky design of the sneaker. However, much like the Supreme collab, this is a Travis Scott shoe, and that alone gives the shoe a huge amount of hype. Not only that, but they are extremely comfortable as well. The only way to obtain this shoe now is through resale price, which will cost over $500.

6. Nike X Sacai VaporWaffle

Now this shoe can be seen as a bit controversial, especially since the shoe won't drop until Nov. 13. Although the shoe has built a huge amount of hype within the sneaker community. The sneaker will release in two different colorways, ‘Royal Fuchsia’ and a black/white pair. The last time Nike and Sacai collabed the shoe immediately sold out within minutes, and this will most likely happen again. The shoe itself has a unique look with the heel and midsole being split wide open. More information on this shoe will be coming soon after it releases.

5. Adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR

Another shoe that can be seen controversial on this list the is Foam Runner (stylized as RNNR) since not everyone considers it a sneaker. Many people see this shoe as more of a slipper. Although, a lot of that credit is due to how extremely comfortable this unique shoe is. It is rare that a shoe can look like a 90’s or early 2000’s shoe but also, at the same time looks like the shoe of the future. With its unique breathable design this shoe catches many looks from sneakerheads or not. The shoe sold out in seconds when it was released in June for $75. However, the shoe is so hard to get that it can only be found for resale now, with the shoe now costing about $600.

4. Air Jordan 4 x Off-White Sail

Promotional Photo from Jordan/Off-White

The only Off-White shoe to appear on this list is its collaboration with Jordan brand. The women 's exclusive shoe was released on July 25 for $200. The shoe was an instant hit, from the moment was teased in the Fall/Winter 2020 Women’s show in Paris. Not only was this a collab with two of the heavy hitters in the sneaker world, but it was the Jordan 4 design. Which most people say is the second best Jordan shoe, only behind the Jordan one. Most men who wanted the shoe had to get a very large size since it was exclusive to women sizes only. Of course that did not hinder the shoe from selling out in seconds. Like many of the other shoes on this list, the exclusivity and hype on this shoe has made it difficult to obtain. With it only being available for resale for the price of $2,000.

3. Travis Scott x Nike SB Dunk Low

Promotional Photo from Nike

This shoe is one of the main reasons why the Nike SB dunk has been revitalized to the huge popularity it has now. With a unique paisley and checkerboard pattern, using brown and navy colors with its rope shoe laces. The shoe immediately sold out on release day with fans calling it shoe of the year, at the moment. The shoe that was released for $150 can now only be found for around $1,800 in the resale market. With not restock in sight, this may be the only way to cop this nicely designed shoe.

2. Ben & Jerry's x Nike SB Dunk Low 'Chunky Dunky'

No other shoe may be as loud and unique as this one. With a green, yellow, blue and cow print colorway. This shoe is another reason why the Nike SB popularity has increased substantially. The shoe does not come in a normal shoe box, but came in a literal Ben & Jerry ice cream tub. The shoe is also made with top materials from Nike, the shoe has gained so much popularity that some sizes even go for more than $3,000. This shoe is the embodiment of a hype shoe.

  1. Dior X Jordan 1

Promotional photo from Nike/Dior.

No other shoe was as popular as the Dior Jordan's before their release date. The sneaker came in two versions, a high-top and low-top. Although the shoe came in two styles it had the least amount of units. With only 8,000 shoes up for grab, the shoe was almost impossible to get. Not only does it come in the legendary Jordan 1 silhouette but it comes with high-end materials thanks to Dior. The shoe can be found being sold for upwards to $20,000, and people are paying for it. The shoe is a sneakerheads and collectors dream, and for a shoe this exclusive no restock will be coming anytime soon.
